Scholarship Description
The Advanced Speech Contest is designed to encourage interest in promoting the beef industry and projecting Herefords in a positive image through public speaking. The emphasis on the Advanced Speech contest is to develop leaders who can not only speak in a public setting and represent the industry well. The National Hereford Women (NHW) sponsor the contest.

INTERMEDIATE & SENIOR CONTEST ONLY
1. Contestants must be a member of the National Junior Hereford Association.
2. The intermediate division is for youth 14-17 and the senior division is for youth 18-21 as of Jan. 1.
3. Speeches will be 3 to 7 minutes in length. Following the speech, time will be allowed for questions from
the judges
Contests will be judged on the following:
• Subject Knowledge (30%)
• Organization (10%)
• Presentation (30%)
• Response to Questions (20%)
• General Effectiveness (10%)
