John D. Spurling Scholarship

The AKC Humane Fund’s mission is to promote the cause of responsible pet ownership. Our
newest grant opportunity will provide scholarships for students who are pursuing educational
programs that include responsible pet ownership in their curriculum. For example, individuals
pursuing studies in veterinary medicine, veterinary technology, physical therapy, animal care,
animal behavior, grooming and training may be eligible for this grant. The Fund plans to award
five scholarships per year, totaling $10,000 annually, payable as tuition assistance to accredited
institutions where students are enrolled in courses of study focusing on the care of pets. By
helping to make education in these fields attainable for more students, we hope the result will be
better educated owners and an improvement in the lives of pets in the long run.
